Tell your Senators: Stop the Save Our Bacon scam in the Farm Bill!
The corrupt Save Our Bacon scam threatens family farmers. We all need to make our voices heard and tell our Senators: NO on the Save Our Bacon scam!
The corrupt "Save Our Bacon Act" is an attack on farmers, animal welfare, and states' rights. It would wipe away important state laws that set minimum standards to ensure that eggs, pork, and veal sold within their state come from animals who weren't confined in cages so small that they can't even turn around. This scam would also wipe out important agricultural laws that protect livestock from zoonotic diseases and invasive pests, such as screwworm.
China-owned conglomerates and special interest groups are lobbying Congress to pass the scam so they can wipe out those responsible farming laws and undercut the family farmers who are benefiting from them. These laws are lifelines to the farmers, providing a market for them that allows them to compete and bring fair profits. Farmers across the country have already made investments to modify their farms to meet these standards, and they will lose those investments and their market opportunity if the SOB Act passes.
TAKE ACTION: Call your Senator and then send a message to the members of the Senate Agriculture Committee. Tell them to oppose the Save Our Bacon scam.
Calls count even more than emails.
Staff tally every call. Two minutes on the phone carries more weight with a Senate office than almost anything else you can do. Here's exactly what to say.
Hi, my name is [Your Name] and I'm calling from [Your City, State]. I'm calling to ask the Senator to oppose the Save Our Bacon Act and to keep it out of the Farm Bill. This bill would wipe out state animal welfare laws that voters passed themselves, and it would strip protections that keep livestock safe from disease and invasive pests. Family farmers who already invested to meet these standards would lose those investments. Can I count on the Senator to oppose the Save Our Bacon Act? [If they answer: thank them and note the response.] Thank you for your time.
